Theory And Practice
Practice is the observation of disparate concepts (or a phenomenon) that needs explanation.
What is theory and practice? Do you even need to waste your precious and valuable time even considering this? How does this apply to your real life issues?
Food for thought:
As with every thing in life, opinions vary and span the entire spectrum. Here are some opinions that will get you to thinking.
Theory and practice complement each other like thinking and doing. A theory is a thought, an idea about the way the world works that allows you to predict what will happen if you do something. Practice is doing; what happens when you do the thing. The better the theory, the better the match between your thoughts and predictions and what occurs in practice. Theories are theoretical. Practice is practical. Together they make a smashing combination.
In human terms you cannot go through any single moment, or in whole your life, without “practicing” these standardised processes of human development. More often than not can you find relativity, if only you look.
The word “theory” is one of the most misunderstood and misused words; even by some scientists, who should know better. I expect one of the reasons maybe it’s easier to say “theory” when referring to a simple idea, than “hypothesis”; but that’s just my hypothesis.
In scientific terms there are three levels: Conjecture – a guess, not capable of being tested even in principle (most Lay-persons wrongly associate conjecture with theory); Hypothesis – An idea capable of being empirically tested; Theory – a Hypothesis that been affirmed through empirical tests.
Therefore, theory, far from being a guess, is a working idea that is supported by actual evidence. However, good science is never satisfied, and theories are continuously tested to falsify their predictions.
Real Life Practices:
Theory and practice can be applied to real life issues. In fact, this approve could prove itself to be very beneficial.
in the scientific sense, this is really based on the consideration of available evidence.
When it comes to real life issues, remember that our own experience and practice is the evidence that needs to be considered.
It is also this same evidence that can be used to evaluate the practices used in our daily life and compare them to the outcome we achieved.
In this context, focus on your actions. Consider why you did what you did. Lastly, evaluate how you went about achieving the outcome. This type of theory and practice is an interpretation of life and remains critical.
Why and How
Are you evaluating this type of evidence in your theory and practice of life?
How does one do this effective?
Firstly, be specific when focusing on particular parts of your life Remember, it is not only about what you did, but also why you chose to do it and how you achieved it.
I’ll leave you with these inspirational words:
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
