    How We See The World

    How We See The World

How we see the world depends largely on our unique personality traits.

Essentially, this perception is based on whether you are open minded or closed minded.

There were five personality traits as the focus of a study done by the University of Melbourne in Australia. These personality traits include extroversion, conscientiousness, amiability, neuroticism, and openness.

This study discovered that open-minded people perceive thing visually different from other people.

Ways Your Perception can be Skewed

Based on the findings of the study in Australia, one can deduce that ‘seeing is not always believing’.

Firstly, our personal abilities and skills impacts our perception. If you walk 20 miles daily and a faced with a 20 mile walk, because of your ability to stomp down 20 miles effortlessly, the 20-mile walk ahead will be perceived as far from daunting.

However, if you are an unfit individual with very little exposure to physical exercise, like walking, your perception of the same 20-mile walk will be far different.

Another interesting factor that has surfaced that affects ones perception is body awareness. Those individuals that are attuned with their body and what their feeling seem to make more successful decisions, even in very intense and highly stressful environments.

    Is what we perceive reality?

    Excellent question.

One of the best examples I have found answering this question is here.

Here is an interesting excerpt of this article:

“Fix your gaze on the black dot on the left side of this image. But wait!

Finish reading this paragraph first. As you gaze at the left dot, try to answer this question. In what direction is the object on the right moving? Is it drifting diagonally, or is it moving up and down?

Remember, focus on the dot on the left.

    Courtesy of Patrick Cavanagh

It appears as though the object on the right is moving diagonally, up to the right and then back down to the left.

    Right? Right?!

Actually, it’s not. It’s moving up and down in a straight, vertical line.

See for yourself. Trace it with your finger.”

    Fascinating or not?

Based on the above, I can only deduce that our perceived reality could be the furthest thing from the truth.

Maecenas tempus, tellus eget condimentum rhoncus? Nam quam nunc, blandit vel, luctus pulvinar, hendrerit id, lorem. Maecenas nec odi et ante tincidunt tempus vitae.

How can we see the world as it truly is?

Wow, reality appears to be a myth based on the black dot example. So eye opening and though provoking.
